Five Member Practices
The following Member Practices are meant to help foster a community shaped by the gospel for the renewal of all things. We understand that membership in a local body is not merely a matter of one’s status; but is characterized by one’s behaviors. If all of our members actively strive to embody these practices, we believe it will meaningfully enrich our shared community life and help maintain a spiritually fertile environment for the work of the Spirit.
Members at Cornerstone seek to embody the following practices:
Formation | We strive to mature into Christlikeness by the power of the Spirit.
This often looks like:
Participation in worship gatherings most Sundays of the year
Cultivating personal rhythms of Scripture reading and prayer (like the Daily Office)
Practicing embodied spirituality
Attending courses, groups, or workshops to increase one’s knowledge of God, of Scripture, of sacred practices
Seeing one’s vocation and relationships as primary grounds for our growth in discipleship
Friendship | We foster a network of spiritual friendships under the lordship of Christ
This often looks like:
Befriending others by taking small social risks (eg. asking someone to sit with you in worship, inviting others into your home to share a meal, etc.)
Participating in an Apprentice Group or being deliberate about instigating reflective conversations about following Jesus with others
Showing up at times of crisis or celebration in the lives of other believers
Refining the art of asking good questions and practicing personal sharing
Praying with and for other believers
Rooting oneself in the community for the long-haul
Service | We faithfully and joyfully serve the church at least once a month on Sundays, and other ways beyond.
This often looks like:
Helping as a Cornerstone Kids or Cornerstone Students volunteer
Helping others find seats and passing out offering plates as an usher
Leading with music or as part of the Creative Team
Serving as a Prayer Partner or administering communion
Being a Care Companion, Pre-Marital Mentor, or other opportunities that arise
Generosity | We give to the Lord through the church in a way that is cheerful, planned & in keeping with our income.
This often looks like:
Prayerfully asking the Lord how we can best honor him with the stewardship of our resources
Determining how much one will give on a weekly, monthly or annual basis to the Lord through the church, using the tithe as a guide for faithful giving.
Considering recurring giving, or planning in advance when one will give throughout the year, and being open to giving toward other opportunities that arise.
Reflecting annually on one’s giving and adjusting as needed.
Mission | We seize opportunities to enact the renewal of all things locally and globally.
This often looks like:
Participating in community service efforts like the Warming Shelter, assembling Care Bags for houseless Tulsans, or other opportunities the church makes available.
Praying for global missionaries, participating in Formation or Renewal trips, giving toward special Renewal opportunities.
Regularly being present as a Christian in the lives of those who don’t yet know Jesus (eg. in one’s neighborhood, at work, in places where one spend free time).
Praying for future church planting opportunities and participating on a launch team
